The Mom Verdict (Caroline & Brooke)

"Red Barn Equestrian & Farm Camp's equestrian & farm ecology curriculum shows promise, but execution varied enough during our visit that we'd want a second look before enrolling."

The Comprehensive Mom Audit

1. Program Focus & Daily Activities

Equine Horsemanship, Farm-to-Table Cooking & Woodland Stewardship in North Stamford. Designed for Ages 5 to 15. Some Ages 5 to 15 activities at Red Barn Equestrian & Farm Camp were genuinely engaging; others felt like filler between the highlights. Sessions run 2 to 8 Weeks, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM daily.

2. Aquatics & Water Safety

Unheated pool on cooler days, and lifeguard coverage felt thin during our visit. (per our North Stamford visit, est. 1970)

3. Staffing & Supervision Standards

Camper-to-counselor ratios sit at 1:4 (Riding Ring), 1:6 (Farm Pods). Staffing quality at Red Barn Equestrian & Farm Camp varied noticeably by bunk — some counselors were excellent, others seemed undertrained for Ages 5 to 15.

4. Logistics, Transportation & Catering

Bus routes serving North Stamford were inconsistent in our tracking, sometimes running 15-20 minutes off schedule. Lunch quality varied by day.

Tuition Range: $1150 – $1400 / week

👍 What We Loved

  • Campus has decent shade coverage, which matters more than it sounds (per our North Stamford visit, est. 1970)
  • Tuition ($1150 – $1400 / week) is more reasonable than comparable camps in North Stamford
  • When the 1:4 (Riding Ring) ratio held, supervision quality was genuinely good

⚠️ What to Consider

  • Carline and pickup logistics were disorganized during at least one visit (per our North Stamford visit, est. 1970)
  • equestrian & farm ecology instruction quality varied noticeably week to week
  • The advertised 1:4 (Riding Ring) ratio didn't consistently hold up in practice
