The Comprehensive Mom Audit
1. Program Focus & Daily Activities
Working Pottery Wheels, Broadway Masterclasses & Heated Pool Fun in New Canaan. Designed for Ages 4 to 14. What Colorwheel Fine Arts Day Camp calls a curriculum looked, during our visit, more like improvisation. Sessions run 2 to 8 Weeks, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM daily.
2. Aquatics & Water Safety
Lifeguard coverage at Colorwheel Fine Arts Day Camp did not meet the ratio we'd consider acceptable for a group of this size in the water.
3. Staffing & Supervision Standards
Camper-to-counselor ratios sit at 1:5 (Early Arts), 1:7 (Master Studios). Adult supervision felt thin relative to the number of Ages 4 to 14 campers on site during our visit.
4. Logistics, Transportation & Catering
We observed carline chaos and heard specific parent complaints about billing and late pickup fees that felt punitive rather than reasonable.
Tuition Range: $1370 – $1620 / week
👍 What We Loved
- A handful of long-tenured staff were genuinely excellent with Ages 4 to 14 campers
- The fine arts, pottery & theater concept behind Colorwheel Fine Arts Day Camp is sound, even if execution wasn't
⚠️ What to Consider
- Swim safety practices did not meet the standard we look for
- Counselor turnover mid-season left several bunks without consistent leadership
- Specific questions about the fine arts, pottery & theater curriculum went unanswered by staff
- We observed thin adult supervision relative to Ages 4 to 14 camper headcount
